Bhagavad Gita World

Your right is to action, not to its fruits

You have a right to your duty alone, never to its results. Do not let the fruit be your motive, and do not be attached to inaction either.

कर्मण्येवाधिकारस्ते मा फलेषु कदाचन ।
मा कर्मफलहेतुर्भूर्मा ते सङ्गोऽस्त्वकर्मणि ॥

karmaṇyevādhikāraste mā phaleṣu kadācana .
mā karmaphalaheturbhūrmā te saṅgo.astvakarmaṇi ॥

Related Gita verse: Gita 2.47

This is the most quoted teaching of the Gita. Results depend on many factors, but our effort is fully in our hands. When we put our whole attention on doing the work well, anxiety falls away and the work itself improves.

Life lesson: do today's work with full sincerity and offer the result to God.
