Bhagavad Gita World

Three gates to ruin: lust, anger and greed

Lust, anger and greed are the three gates of hell that lead to the ruin of the soul. Therefore one should abandon all three.

त्रिविधं नरकस्येदं द्वारं नाशनमात्मनः ।
कामः क्रोधस्तथा लोभस्तस्मादेतत्त्रयं त्यजेत् ॥

trividhaṃ narakasyedaṃ dvāraṃ nāśanamātmanaḥ .
kāmaḥ krodhastathā lobhastasmādetattrayaṃ tyajet ॥

Related Gita verse: Gita 16.21

These three faults are linked: unfulfilled desire turns into anger, and fulfilled desire feeds greed. Recognising and restraining them brings peace into life.

Life lesson: make contentment your wealth.
