A famous pada of Mirabai (16th century): the Lord's name, received by the guru's grace, is the most priceless treasure.

Original text

Author: Mirabai (16th century)

Mirabai was a devotee wholly given to Giridhar Gopal. In this pada "Rama" means the name of Hari, the one who delights in all.

Meaning: I have found the treasure of the jewel of Rama's name. My true guru, in his kindness, gave me this priceless thing and made me his own. I have gained the wealth of many lifetimes, and the world's attachments have fallen away.

It is a wealth that does not shrink when spent, that no thief can steal, and that grows by a quarter more every day. Truth is the boat and the true guru is its boatman; with his help I have crossed the ocean of worldly life.

Mira says: my Lord is the clever Giridhar; full of joy, I sing His glory again and again.
