Shri Krishna Gayatri Mantra
A prayer to Shri Krishna in the Gayatri metre — may the son of Devaki, Vasudeva, inspire our understanding.
ॐ देवकीनन्दनाय विद्महे वासुदेवाय धीमहि ।
तन्नः कृष्णः प्रचोदयात् ॥
oṃ devakīnandanāya vidmahe vāsudevāya dhīmahi tannaḥ kṛṣṇaḥ pracodayāt
Meaning: may we know the son of Devaki, may we meditate on Vasudeva; may that Krishna inspire our understanding towards the right path.
Like the original Gayatri, this mantra holds three movements: knowing, meditating and asking for inspiration. Students and those studying the Gita often say it before they begin.
Recite it calmly 11 or 108 times in the morning or evening, after lighting a lamp. Many books print the reading "tanno krishnah"; the meaning is the same.
